During the Civil War, he served as a private in Company B, 15 Regiment NJ Volunteers. He was discharged at Woolford's Ford, Virginia on February 17, 1864 due to a disability. Wiggins was married to Matilda (1808-1886) and died in 1880 at the age of 72. He is buried with his wife and son, Henry C., in Union Cemetery, Hackettstown, NJ (Section C, Lot 24).
