Mark Your Calendars for June 14, 2008!

The 2008 Hackettstown Historic House Tour is scheduled for Saturday, June 14, with homes and venues open to the public from 10am until 4pm.

The tour is a wonderful opportunity to experience Warren County's rich architectural heritage up close. Private homes, area churches and important historic sites will come alive through personalized tours, special exhibits and interactive events.

This year, the tour features five private Victorian-era homes, including a rare example of a mid-19th century Octagon House, one of only five remaining in New Jersey. Other buildings include a Greek revival hotel, Greek and Gothic revival churches and Hackettstown's grande dame, Centenary College.

Special events include a Victorian Tea from 2pm-4pm, hosted in Centenary College's beautiful front parlor, a vintage clothing display, and horse drawn carriage rides through the Historic district, all included in the ticket price. The First Presbyterian Chapel on Main Street will be serving a Victorian lunch from 11am-1pm. Tickets for this event are sold separately. Prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12.

The Hackettstown Historical Society Museum, located at 106 Church Street (next to the Library) will also be open from 11am-3pm. The museum is home to a wonderful collection of artifacts and information that commemorate Hackettstown's vibrant and distinctive past.

The town's recently restored historic burial grounds, with costumed interpreters on hand, will be of particular interest to military buffs, genealogists and history enthusiasts. Established in 1763, it is the final resting place of 29 Revolutionary War soldiers and many members of Hackettstown's ancestral families.
