The American Sawmill Factory The American Saw Mill Machinery Company was founded in 1903. They were an important manufacturer of circular sawmills and general-purpose woodworking machinery. The plant was located in Hackettstown, New Jersey near the main line of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Rail Road. The buildings sat on six acres and included 43,000 square feet of factory floor space.
During the 1920's, they were the largest maker of circular sawmills in the United States. They eventually migrated their primary focus away from sawmills and moved towards shop machinery, including table saws, jointer and planers.
The company used another name, American Woodworking Machinery Company during the 1950's, for marketing purposes, presumably to de-emphasize their sawmill roots.
