2007-2008 Program Schedule Announced


The Hackettstown Historical Society has completed its program schedule for 2007-2008. With new and interesting topics and charasmatic speakers on hand, this year's programs are sure to educate and entertain.

September 6: The Ice Houses of Waterloo
Learn about Waterloo's famous ice houses and their role in Warren County history

October 4: Ghost Stories
Are some of our ancestors still with us? Come "see" about Warren County haunts and hauntings

November 1: Preserving the Olde Burial Ground
The Olde Presbyterian Burial Ground is a Hackettstown landmark. Come hear about recent radar survey findings and the ongoing efforts to preserve Hackettstown's oldest ancestral burial ground

December 6: It's Still Out There
Is it treasure or trash? Learn what to look for when hunting for antiques and collectibles in historic Warren County

February 7: Ancestral Families - The Osmuns
Learn about one of Hackettstown's oldest ancestral families and get tips on how to research and find your ancestors.

March 6: Hackettstown's Historic Homes
Do you know what it takes to organize a historic house tour? Learn what's involved and get a sneak peak at some of the featured homes

April 3: The Murder of Tillie Smith
Hear about Hackettstown's famous and shocking 1886 murder of a Centenary College domestic. Decide for yourself if justice is served!

May 1: Morris Canal Sites in Warren County
The Morris Canal had a tremendousinfluence on the development of the towns and industries in this area. Learn about the canal sites in Warren County

There are two siginificant changes to the meeting schedule this year. The Hackettstown Historical Society now meets the first Thursday of the month in their new facility, conference room at the Hackettstown Regional Medical Center (Hackettstown Hospital). The conference room is located to the right rear of the hospital's cafeteria. Meetings begin at 7:30. All are invited!

HHS Meeting Schedule
The Hackettstown Historical Society will meet on September 15, 2011.
Join us as we welcome Raymond Millhime and Martin Fleisher, two decorated American veterans, who will share their experiences in World War II.
The Society meets on the first Thursday of the month and are held in the Front Parlor of historic Seay Hall at Centenary College, unless otherwise posted. Meetings begin at 7:30 pm. Check this website or call the Museum at 908.852.8797 for additional information.
